Clinical Evaluation Process

How PawTails Works

Legitimate mental health evaluations for housing assistance animals, governed by state medical boards and federal fair housing statutes.

1

Complete The Free Clinical Intake

Our 3-minute secure intake gathers essential medical history regarding anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, or PTSD symptoms that are alleviated by your animal companion.

💡 Privacy Note: Your health records are encrypted under federal HIPAA privacy regulations and never revealed to landlords.
2

State-Licensed Clinician Review

A state-accredited LMHP (Psychologist, LCSW, LMFT, or Board-Certified Psychiatrist) analyzes your questionnaire and evaluates clinical need. In states with mandatory telehealth consultation rules (e.g. California AB 468), our provider schedules a brief telehealth check-in.

3

Official Signed Documentation & QR Portal

Once approved, you receive an official, signed PDF with our verification seal on clinician letterhead. Deliver this document directly to your landlord, leasing agent, or HOA board.

Federal Fair Housing Act (FHA) Rights

Under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the federal Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. 3604), individuals with emotional or psychiatric disabilities have a legal right to request reasonable accommodation to keep an emotional support animal in their rental home.

❌ No Pet Fees / Deposits Landlords are prohibited from charging pet rent, deposits, or application fees for approved ESAs.
❌ No Breed / Weight Limits Breed bans (e.g. Pitbulls, German Shepherds, large breeds) do not apply to assistance animals.
